TIMBERGUARD SOUTHWEST

Professional Structural Waterproofing Solutions

Tailored structural waterproofing solutions that safeguard properties, enhance durability and meet industry standards.

Understanding Structural Waterproofing

When parts of a building are located below ground level, such as basements, car parks, or lift pits, they are exposed to continuous ground moisture and hydrostatic pressure. Without proper protection, this can lead to leaks, dampness, and serious structural deterioration.

At TimberGuard Southwest, we design and install fully compliant waterproofing systems that keep structures dry, safe, and protected. Our CSSW-qualified specialists (Certified Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing) deliver reliable, long-term solutions for both new build and existing properties — all tailored to the unique construction and environmental conditions of your site.

Where Structural Waterproofing Is Used

We provide specialist waterproofing solutions for a wide range of environments, including:

  • Residential and commercial basements
  • Underground car parks
  • Lift shafts and plant room pits
  • Retaining walls and below-grade structures
  • Garages, storage areas and conversions

Every system is designed to comply with BS 8102:2022 – Protection of Below Ground Structures Against Water Ingress, meeting the standards expected by warranty providers such as NHBC, Premier Guarantee and LABC.

Our Waterproofing Systems

Structural waterproofing typically falls into three main categories. At TimberGuard Southwest, we focus on the most effective and widely approved options for long-term performance:

Type A – Barrier Protection (Tanked Systems)

This system uses a continuous waterproof barrier applied to the internal or external face of the structure. Options include cementitious coatings, liquid-applied membranes, or sheet-bonded membranes — all designed to resist hydrostatic pressure and keep moisture out.

Type C – Drained Protection (Cavity Drain Systems)

Instead of blocking water completely, Type C systems control and manage any ingress. Studded membranes, perimeter drainage channels and sump pump units direct water safely away from the structure. These systems are ideal for conversions and refurbishment projects, offering long-term reliability with easy maintenance access.

Combined Systems (Type A + Type C)

In many cases, a dual system is recommended to achieve maximum protection — providing a “belt-and-braces” approach that safeguards against unexpected failures in a single system. This combination is often required by insurers and warranty providers for high-risk environments.

Our Process: From Survey to Installation

Every waterproofing project begins with a detailed inspection carried out by one of our qualified surveyors.

Our process includes:

  • Site-specific risk assessment and moisture analysis
  • Design recommendations based on structure type and conditions
  • Clear reporting and fully costed proposal
  • Professional installation by experienced technicians

We work closely with contractors, developers and homeowners alike, ensuring full compliance and a seamless integration with surrounding construction work.

Why Professional Waterproofing Matters

Water ingress can cause more than visible damp — it leads to corrosion of reinforcement, electrical faults, insulation damage and loss of structural strength. Investing in professional waterproofing from the outset prevents costly remedial work, enhances property value and ensures long-term peace of mind.
